How to Advocate for ASCs

1. Schedule a Legislative Tour of Your Facility.
MNASCA helps our member facilities organize legislative tours and fundraisers at their centers. These events are great opportunities to introduce legislators to your facility, provide information about the practice, and discuss issues of importance to your physicians and staff. It is also a good chance to provide legislators with more information about the association’s work at the Capitol and the health care community.

Legislative tours are both educational and enjoyable. Check out these tips for scheduling facility tours. If you have any interest in hosting a legislative tour or fundraiser, please contact Grace Altier at [email protected].

2. Contribute to the MNASCA Political Action Committee (PAC).
A Political Action Committee (PAC) is an entity whose major purpose is to influence the election of a candidate(s). A PAC is funded by an accumulation of voluntary contributions by individuals of an association. No corporate contributions are allowed. The MNASCA Board appoints a PAC Steering Committee to determine how to contribute funds from the PAC to policymakers and candidates.

Legislative and regulatory pressures have increased significantly in the current political landscape and recent law changes are having a profound impact on practice viability and patient care. As a result, providing strategic support to key legislators will help mitigate challenging initiatives and encourage policies that allow for market freedom and competition. Through our PAC, MNASCA has greater opportunities to educate, engage, and interact with policymakers. Learn more about the MNASCA PAC.

3. Participate in the MNASCA Day at the Capitol.
MNASCA holds an event at the State Capitol each biennium to bring attention to the myriad issues impacting Minnesota's ASCs. MNASCA members have an opportunity to hear from key committee chairs and state leaders on health care issues, as well as connect with their legislators on the issues that matter to ASCs. To learn more and see photos from the 2023 event, visit our Day at the Capitol page.

Ambulatory Surgery Centers are an important part of our health care system that provide quality same-day surgical care and preventive procedures. I enjoyed my visit to Chu Surgery Center as part of National Ambulatory Surgery Day, and I was excited to be able to see the care that they provide patients on a daily basis.”
